InTeam stands for “Innovations in Teaching in an m-Environment.” We are faculty and students at the Duke Marine Laboratory who explore mobile e-learning approaches in marine science and conservation. Together, we are developing a center for teaching innovation and creating a community of practice focused on leveraging new technology such as tablets and smartphones to enhance marine science and conservation education.
Our approach ranges from multi-media and on-line textbooks with collaborative learning tools, to training in geo-referenced field data collection, visualization and analysis, to immersive interfaces that enable digital simulations of problem-solving communities through situated learning. The faculty and students at the Duke Marine Lab are exploring mobile e-learning paradigms in marine science and conservation, developing social capital that adds value to both the individual and the group.
